Šamorín, Slovakia | 25 September 2025 — The Philippine Embassy in Vienna reports that they promoted ethical recruitment practices for skilled Filipino drivers and transport professionals together with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Vienna during the CESMAD Road Transport Conference held on 25 September 2025 in Šamorín, Slovakia.

According to CESMAD Slovakia, the country faces a shortage of around 16,000 drivers in its transport sector. Filipino drivers are increasingly in demand due to their strong technical skills, professionalism, and proficiency in English.

At the conference, the Philippine delegation set up an information booth and conducted an orientation for Slovak employers and recruitment agencies. The presentation underscored the strengths of Filipino workers in the transport and logistics industry and outlined ethical recruitment standards consistent with Philippine labor laws and regulations.

Representing the Philippines were Labor Attaché Delmer Cruz, Consul Dan Bagaporo, and MWO Vienna representative Everos B. Evangelista. Their participation reflects the Philippine government’s continued commitment to promoting the welfare and protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and expanding opportunities in emerging labor markets across Central and Eastern Europe.

The Embassy’s booth drew significant attention and inquiries from established Slovak transport companies interested in hiring Filipino drivers. This initiative reinforces the Philippines’ dedication to building responsible partnerships with foreign employers and ensuring fair, transparent, and mutually beneficial employment arrangements.

The CESMAD Road Transport Conference is a premier annual event for Slovakia’s transport and logistics sector, bringing together employers, agencies, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss workforce challenges, share best practices, and examine trends shaping European road transport. The conference serves as a vital platform for promoting ethical collaboration and connecting Filipino talent with potential employers in Central Europe.
