In these fraudulent messages, which purport to come from Austrian Lotteries, recipients are tricked into disclosing personal information, including bank details, in order to receive an alleged prize payout.
Austrian Lotteries provide tips on how to avoid email scams
The Austrian Lotteries emphasize that these emails do not come from them and are clearly fraudulent. The Austrian Lotteries have never requested customer data by email or demanded advance payments for the transfer of winnings, and will not do so in the future.
- Always delete fraudulent email messages immediately and do not respond to them.
- Be vigilant and do not follow the instructions contained in the email and/or PDF under any circumstances.
- Do not click on any links or files contained therein.
- Do not disclose any personal data or passwords, or any data about your credit cards or bank accounts under any circumstances.
- Under no circumstances should you provide your bank details or transfer money as an advance payment for alleged prize payouts.
- If you have already disclosed your bank details by mistake, or even transferred money, contact your bank immediately.
