The weekend is just around the corner โ€“ but what will the weather be like?

Weather in Vienna

After the cold front moves away on Friday, Austria will experience a windy and changeable spell of weather. Highs over the next five days will be between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius. Regional rain showers are always possible, according to Thursday’s Geosphere forecast.

After the significant precipitation area has moved eastward by Friday morning, there will be some sunny spells, especially in the south, the far east, and the inner Alps. However, more clouds, some of them dense, will follow from the northwest. As a result, further rain showers and snow showers down to 1,200 meters are expected, especially north of the Alps. The wind will blow mainly from the north and, in the mountains, from the west until the evening. After early temperatures between two and ten degrees, highs of nine to 16 degrees are expected.

Weather at the weekend

There will be a few hours of sunshine in the south on Saturday, with showers becoming more likely in the afternoon. In the rest of Austria, there will be a few rain showers, and in some places sleet showers, especially along the northern side of the Alps and in the north, and then also in the east from the afternoon onwards. The snow line will fluctuate between around 1,200 and 1,600 meters above sea level, and after early temperatures of minus two to plus eight degrees, maximum temperatures of nine to 15 degrees will be reached.

A westerly flow will bring a sunny start to Sunday in many areas away from the northern side of the Alps. However, clouds will move in during the morning, followed by a mix of sun and clouds. Rain showers are expected, especially north of the main Alpine ridge. Snow will mix in at altitudes between 1,100 and 1,600 meters. The wind from the west to north will pick up during the day. Early temperatures between minus two and plus seven degrees will rise to between seven and 14 degrees during the day.

Weather at the start of the week

Especially in the eastern half of the country, as well as in the south, there will be intermittent sunshine on Monday before dense clouds move in during the day and bring rain north of the main Alpine ridge. The snow line will be between 900 and 1,400 meters above sea level and will gradually rise slightly. The wind will be brisk to strong from the west north of the Alps, but weak to moderate in the south. Early temperatures will again range between minus two and plus seven degrees, with highs between six and 14 degrees.

Tuesday will start with residual cloud fields and resulting precipitation in large parts of the country before the sun can break through. The outlook south of the main Alpine ridge will be sunnier from the outset. The snow line will be between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level. The wind will be brisk to strong from the west and will remain light only in the south. After early temperatures between minus two and plus eight degrees, highs of seven to 14 degrees will be reached during the day.
