Price shock in November! Many things will become more expensive now that the heating season is starting, and many will feel the impact of the increased CO₂ tax and higher electricity costs (+33%).

Fees have risen sharply—the e-card fee, which is due on November 15, 2025, has almost doubled to 25 euros!

Other costs are also painful: since July 2025, fees for official documents such as passports and driver’s licenses in Austria have increased by almost 50% in some cases.

Streaming is becoming more expensive—Spotify is raising its prices by up to 22 percent. The new rates will apply from November 15 at the latest.

New rules—From November 12, Ryanair will be discontinuing paper boarding passes. In the future, only digital boarding passes on smartphones will be valid. Anyone without a cell phone could find themselves in a sweat when boarding. When shopping online, the following will apply from November 20: “Buy now, pay later” will become more difficult. The popular payment method, where you don’t pay the bill until weeks later, is subject to new restrictions. Klarna or PayPal will then have to check whether the customer can actually afford the purchase, even for amounts under 200 euros. The aim is to protect people from falling into debt. For many, this means fewer spontaneous purchases and more proof of income.

Saving in November? – For those who still want to save money, there is the Vienna public transport annual pass. From 2026, the annual pass for Wiener Linien will cost 467 euros instead of 365 euros. But anyone who buys a new annual pass this year can still travel at the old rate well into next year. This is ONLY possible in November. And ONLY for those whose pass has been valid for at least seven months. In this case, you can return it and get your money back for the remaining months, minus one-twelfth of the respective annual pass price. So if you paid the 365 euros in one go, you will have to pay a penalty of 30.42 euros. This maneuver can therefore pay off for some people—it is possible until the end of November, with validity starting in December. S
