Blue, red, or yellow? According to a study, people with high IQs tend to like a particular color.

Does your favorite color say something about your character? Yes, say certain studies, which go one step further: it can even influence how confident and intelligent you are perceived to be. Among all colors, blue stands out, as it is associated with calmness, concentration, and reliability.

A Korean study called “Intelligence and Color Preferences: Is There a Connection?” examined the relationship between color preferences and intelligence. Nine hundred participating students were asked about their favorite color and then underwent a recognized test to measure their intelligence quotient (IQ). The result: people with higher IQs show a clear preference for cool colors—and blue in particular. A statistically significant correlation between intelligence and color choice was observed.

According to the researchers, blue attracts introspective, thoughtful people who are focused on inner reflection. Philosophically, it embodies order, resilience, and self-control: qualities we associate with cognitive and emotional intelligence. It is also a good indicator of emotional stability, which is essential for coping with stress. The study also suggests a cognitive link between the processing of visual stimuli and certain brain structures involved in problem-solving.

Conversely, participants with lower scores showed a marked preference for bright and warm colors such as red or orange, which trigger immediate emotional arousal. Pink and yellow, on the other hand, are favored by people with average IQs. Nevertheless, the research team emphasizes one thing: “It is important to note that color preferences are also influenced by emotional, psychological, and cultural factors.” While blue is perceived as calming in some cultures, it can also evoke melancholy or severity in others.
