Austria’s long weekend is shaping up to be a classic case of “Eisheilige goodbye, unsettled weather hello.” After a cool and unstable week, the country heads into several days marked by thick clouds, widespread rain and only short-lived sunny breaks — though a friendlier pattern is finally in sight by Monday.

Thursday: Grey Skies Take Over

The southeast can still expect a few sunny intervals on Thursday, but for most of Austria the day turns into a grey-on-grey affair.
From the southwest, rain and showers spread steadily across all regions, with embedded thunderstorms particularly in the south and southeast.
Temperatures remain cool, reaching 8 to 18°C.

Friday: Brief Bright Spots, Then More Rain

Friday morning may offer short clearings with some sunshine, but clouds dominate the Fenstertag.
Rain is expected:

  • Morning: mainly in the northeast and east
  • Afternoon: shifting toward the west and south

Afternoon temperatures again range from 8 to 18°C, increasing from west to east.

Saturday: Italientief Brings Widespread Gloom

An Italian low-pressure system settles over the region, delivering a dull, rainy and heavily overcast Saturday.

  • West & Northwest: persistent, sometimes heavy rain
  • East & South: fewer showers, with rainfall easing by afternoon

Highs reach 9 to 17°C, warmest in the east.

Sunday: Balkan Low Keeps the East Cloudy

A Balkan low ensures thick clouds over the east and northeast, where sunshine remains rare.
The south enjoys the best conditions — brighter and mostly dry.
Rain lingers in the northern Alpine regions and the northeast, but gradually weakens during the afternoon.
Temperatures rise slightly, about one degree warmer than Saturday.

Monday: Sunshine Returns at Last

The new week begins on a much brighter note.
Austria wakes up to widespread sunshine, except for the northeast, where clouds and leftover showers may linger.
By late morning, cumulus clouds develop across the country, with brief showers possible along the northern Alps.
The south remains the sunniest and driest region.
Temperatures climb to 13–21°C, signaling a clear shift toward milder spring weather.
