A beautiful evening of international solidarity, music, and shared faith brought the month of Mary to a memorable close.

The Herz Jesu Parish community experienced an extraordinary outpouring of fellowship and devotion during the concluding prayer service for this year’s Maiandacht (May Devotions). Attended by a massive crowd of parishioners and visitors, the evening served as a profound celebration of hope, underscored by the soulful cultural and spiritual contributions of the parish’s Filipino community.

A Focus on Mary, Mother of Hope

The central theme of the devotion focused on Mary as the “Mother of Hope.” Through prayers and reflections, attendees were reminded of Mary’s unwavering trust in God—a faith that sustained her through moments of pure joy and security, as well as times of deep sorrow and uncertainty.

This message resonated deeply with the congregation, mirroring a collective, modern-day longing for hope within individual lives, families, and the wider world. Standing together, the faithful cast their gaze upon Mary, offering their own silent and spoken petitions to God.

"Mary calls us to come closer to her son, Jesus Christ.
And in times of pain, in times of our worry, in times of doubt,
Mary promises to walk with us and to bring our prayers to Jesus
                                  with a mother's love."

The Highlight: Filipino Devotion Animates the Liturgy

The undeniable highlight of the celebration was the beautiful liturgy animated by the local Filipino community. Members of the “Our Lady of Manaoag” and “Divine Mercy” groups took center stage to lead the congregation in prayer and song.

Bringing the vibrant spirit of Philippine Catholic traditions to Herz Jesu, the groups filled the church with moving hymns and heartfelt prayers. Their lively, expressive spirituality breathed a unique energy into the traditional European service, beautifully demonstrating how a shared faith can transcend borders and unite different cultures.

Fellowship at the Agape

The spiritual experience seamlessly transitioned into a social one following the final blessing. The large crowd gathered for a traditional Agape, providing a wonderful opportunity for the diverse community to connect. Over food and drink, Austrian parishioners and members of the Filipino groups shared conversations, renewed old friendships, and forged new bonds.

The evening concluded not just as the end of a monthly devotion, but as a triumphant showcase of a living, inclusive church community.
