Classical music lovers in Austria are in for an exceptional evening as internationally acclaimed Filipino baritone Cipriano De Guzman Jr. takes the stage to perform one of opera’s most poignant roles: Giorgio Germont in Giuseppe Verdi’s timeless masterpiece, La Traviata.
Organized in cooperation with the Watzmann Opera Studio and warmly supported by the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, this upcoming production brings world-class vocal artistry to the scenic municipality of Bürmoos in Salzburg.
A Global Career Rooted in Excellence
Based in Luxembourg as an opera singer and dedicated music educator, Cipriano De Guzman Jr. has steadily carved out a distinguished international reputation. His rich baritone voice and compelling stage presence have earned him accolades across major cultural capitals worldwide—with prize-winning performances in New York, London, Rome, Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, and Lugano.
De Guzman holds a historic place in Philippine classical music as the first Filipino to win twice at the prestigious American Protégé International Music Competition, performing at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City in both 2016 and 2017.
In La Traviata, De Guzman steps into the pivotal role of Giorgio Germont—a father torn between societal honor and familial love, featuring some of Verdi’s most emotionally charged baritone arias, including the famed “Di Provenza il mar”.
