VIENNA, Austria — Color, creativity, and cultural pride filled the halls of the Philippine Embassy in Vienna as young overseas Filipinos participated in an inspiring art workshop organized under this year’s Paaralan sa Pasuguan program.

The special session brought together 27 enthusiastic Filipino children for a hands-on journey into the world of visual arts, led by the Filipino Visual Artists in Austria (FVAA).

Nurturing Young Talent

FVAA President Gerry de Guzman and Vice President Imelda Perez Papai spearheaded the workshop, guiding the young participants through the fundamental concepts of art, color theory, and composition. With patience and expertise, the pair mentored the children, encouraging them to express their unique perspectives and embrace their artistic potential.

The workshop proved to be a resounding success. Throughout the session, the room buzzed with excitement as the young artists eagerly brought their ideas to life. By the end of the program, the children had produced an array of vibrant, remarkably beautiful artworks that showcased both their newfound skills and imaginative flair.

Celebrating Heritage Through Art

Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas commended the FVAA leaders and the young participants for their vibrant contributions to the embassy’s flagship cultural education initiative.

Ambassador Arroyo-Bernas expressed her deep gratitude to the artist-mentors for their dedication to the Filipino community. She highlighted the vital role such initiatives play in the celebration, preservation, and promotion of the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage among the younger generation living abroad.

A Tradition of Cultural Learning

The annual Paaralan sa Pasuguan (School in the Embassy) is an ongoing initiative by the Philippine Embassy in Vienna designed to teach young Filipino-Austrians about their cultural roots, language, history, and traditions. Through collaborative efforts with local community organizations like the FVAA, the program continues to foster a strong sense of identity, community, and pride among young global Filipinos.
