Vienna is heading into one of the hottest stretches of this summer, with meteorologists at GeoSphere Austria warning of a rapid shift from breezy conditions to full-on heatwave. After a lively and slightly changeable Sunday, temperatures will climb steadily — peaking in the mid‑30s by Thursday.
Windy Monday Before the Heat Arrives
The new week begins with a noticeable dip in temperatures and a turbulent atmosphere. Clouds and sunshine will alternate quickly, and between late morning and late afternoon, brief showers may pass through the city. GeoSphere Austria expects strong west to northwest winds, pushing Monday’s highs to around 28°C — cooler than the weekend but far from cold.
Sunshine Takes Over on Tuesday
By Tuesday, the unsettled weather clears out entirely. Apart from a few harmless midday cumulus clouds, sunshine dominates. Winds ease and gradually shift to the southeast. Afternoon temperatures rebound to 31°C, marking the start of a warming trend that will intensify through midweek.
Heat Intensifies Midweek
Wednesday brings classic high‑summer conditions: blue skies from morning to evening, barely interrupted by any cloud cover. After a mild 19°C at dawn, Vienna heats up to around 35°C during the day, accompanied by a light, occasionally freshening breeze.
Thursday: Peak of the Heatwave
The hottest day of the week is expected on Thursday. Early temperatures already hover near 20°C, and under uninterrupted sunshine — with only a few decorative afternoon clouds — the city is forecast to reach up to 36°C. GeoSphere Austria notes that this marks the preliminary peak of the heatwave, with conditions typical of the hottest phase of the Austrian summer.
