Vienna Public Transport Lines Return to Regular Routes in August

Summer construction work enters its final phase
Vienna’s summer construction projects are entering their final weeks, with several public transport lines set to return to their regular routes in August.
According to the available information, the major summer projects of Wiener Linien are progressing on schedule. For passengers, this means several important changes are coming over the next few weeks.

These lines are returning to normal service
The U4 has already been operating along its full route again since August 3.
The next major change comes on August 17, when tram line 31 will resume its regular service between Schottenring and Stammersdorf.

From August 22, lines 5, 12, 37, 38, 40, 41 and 42 will once again run across the renovated intersection of Spitalgasse, Währinger Straße and Nußdorfer Straße. On the same day, tram lines D, 1 and 71 will also return to the Universitätsring.

On August 29, tram line 43 will return to its regular route all the way to Neuwaldegg.

The final major restoration will take place on August 31. From that date, U3 will once again operate continuously between Ottakring and Simmering.

Road construction also nearing completion
Progress is also being made on Vienna’s road construction projects.
At Floridsdorfer Brücke, the ramp connecting traffic from the 20th district to the A22 motorway was reopened on August 8. Remaining restrictions are expected to stay in place until the end of the school summer holidays.

From August 18, new traffic arrangements will apply at the intersection of Brünner Straße, Lundenburger Gasse and Shuttleworthstraße. Drivers coming from Brünner Straße will only be permitted to continue straight or turn right. Traffic from Lundenburger Gasse and Shuttleworthstraße will be restricted to right turns.

Meanwhile, the main carriageways at Margaretengürtel are also expected to be fully accessible again by the end of the summer holidays. Further waterproofing work on the U-STRAB is scheduled to take place in September.

With the final weeks of August bringing the reopening of several key routes, Vienna’s public transport network is gradually returning to normal after the summer construction period.
