VIENNA, Austria – The Sanghimig Choristers received warm appreciation from parishioners for their outstanding musical contribution to the celebration of World Mission Sunday at the Parish of Leopoldau in Vienna’s 21st district on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

The Filipino choir, led by Debbie Beltran-Tschirch, provided the musical accompaniment for the Holy Mass at 9:30 a.m., helping create a prayerful and uplifting atmosphere for the parish community. Parishioners who attended the Mass praised the choir’s performance, expressing their appreciation for the beautiful singing and the meaningful contribution it made to the liturgical celebration.

The participation of the Sanghimig Choristers highlighted the important role of music in bringing people together in faith and strengthening the spirit of community within the Catholic Church. Their service also reflected the continuing contribution of Filipinos to the religious and cultural life of Vienna.

Filipino Catholic Community Joins Celebration at St. Stephen’s Cathedral

Meanwhile, the Filipino Catholic Chaplaincy in Vienna joined other international Catholic communities for a special celebration of the Holy Mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna’s first district. The gathering brought together faithful from diverse cultural backgrounds in a shared expression of faith, unity and missionary commitment.

The Mass, celebrated at 10:15 a.m., was part of the Archdiocese of Vienna’s observance of World Mission Sunday, which emphasized the richness of the universal Church through the participation of its various international communities.

A Century of Mission and Solidarity

World Mission Sunday 2026 carried special significance as the Catholic Church marked the 100th anniversary of this worldwide day of prayer and solidarity for missionary work. This year’s celebration focused on Ethiopia, with Missio Austria highlighting projects that support vulnerable communities, particularly in the conflict-affected region of Tigray.

Across the world, Catholics were encouraged to pray for missionaries and contribute to initiatives that bring education, healthcare, pastoral care and other forms of assistance to people in need.

The celebrations in Leopoldau and at St. Stephen’s Cathedral demonstrated how communities from different nations could come together through music, prayer and service.

Through their musical ministry, the Sanghimig Choristers once again demonstrated that their contribution extends beyond singing. It is also a service of faith that inspires others, enriches liturgical celebrations and strengthens solidarity among communities.

As the Catholic Church celebrated a century of World Mission Sunday, the Filipino community in Vienna joined the worldwide mission of bringing hope, compassion and faith to people across borders.
