VIENNA, Austria — Three decades of women’s empowerment, cultural preservation, solidarity, and community service will take center stage as Babaylan Austria celebrates its 30th anniversary with the Masquerade Ball 2026, on November 14, 2026, at the Vienna Marriott Hotel, Parkring 12A, 1010 Vienna.
Under the theme “A Night with the Spies,” the anniversary celebration promises an evening of mystery, elegance, and glamour inspired by the world of James Bond. Thirty Years of a Vision for Filipino Women
Thirty years ago, a group of visionary Filipino women came together with a dream: to establish an organization that would give Filipino women in Austria a voice, a place of support, and an opportunity to make a difference in their community.
That dream became a reality with the founding and registration of Babaylan Austria, the first Philippine women’s organization in Austria, under the leadership of its first president, Maria Lourdes “Malou” Reininger.
Since its establishment, the organization has worked to create opportunities for women to grow, become empowered, support one another, and contribute meaningfully to society.
The name Babaylan carries a profound significance rooted in Philippine history and tradition. A babaylan was a woman recognized for her wisdom, strength, healing, spirituality, and leadership. She served as a trusted guide and source of knowledge, playing an important role in the life of her community.
In many ways, Babaylan Austria has carried this spirit throughout its 30-year journey.
Turning Vision into Action
From the beginning, Babaylan Austria has pursued clear objectives: promoting women’s empowerment; assisting women in distressed situations; encouraging women’s liberation through organized educational programs; preserving and promoting Philippine traditions and customs among younger generations; and building bridges of friendship and support with women’s organizations of other nationalities in Austria.
These objectives represent more than words on paper. Over the past three decades, they have served as the foundation of the organization’s work and community engagement.
Babaylan Austria has sought to stand beside women during difficult times, create opportunities for learning and personal development, and help Filipino families and younger generations maintain their connection to Philippine culture and traditions.
At the same time, the organization has encouraged friendship, understanding, and cooperation across cultural boundaries, strengthening the bonds between the Filipino community and the wider Austrian society.
Its 30th anniversary is therefore not only a celebration of longevity but also a tribute to the women whose dedication, generosity, and commitment have helped sustain the organization’s mission through the years.
