VIENNA, Oct. 31, 2026 — Motorists who park illegally in Vienna will face significantly higher towing charges from November 1, after the city approved an increase in fees to reflect rising operating costs.

The City of Vienna announced on Friday that the fee for towing cars and motorcycles will increase from €301 to €355, representing an increase of around 18 percent. In addition, daily vehicle storage charges at the municipal impound facility in Simmering will rise from €11 to €13 per day.

According to the city, the revised tariffs are intended to ensure full cost recovery for the service. Officials stressed that the adjustment is designed to achieve a 100 percent cost-coverage rate and is not intended to generate a profit.

The previous towing tariff, introduced in December 2023, was based on cost data from 2021 and no longer reflected current expenses. The city cited substantial increases in costs, particularly those charged by private towing contractors, whose fees have reportedly risen by 43 percent since then.

Despite the increase, Vienna said its towing charges remain below those typically charged by private operators towing vehicles from private property. Such services currently cost between €395 and €432, while daily storage fees range from €20 to €24.90.

“This cost can easily be avoided: if you follow traffic regulations, your vehicle will not be towed,” said Josef Thon, head of Vienna’s municipal waste management and street cleaning department, MA 48.

City officials emphasized that towing illegally parked vehicles plays an important role in maintaining traffic flow, keeping loading zones accessible, and helping to avoid unnecessary emissions caused by congestion.

The new towing and storage fees will come into effect on November 1, 2026.
