Ludwig: “Vaccination rate to increase significantly”
“The fourth wave is rolling toward us,” Ludwig said. Even vaccinated people will be affected, he said, because now operations in hospitals will have to be postponed again.
However, turning on Stage 5 in Vienna was necessary, he said. Because, according to Ludwig, a lot of young people would be admitted to Viennese hospitals. He said it must be taken seriously that doctors and nursing teams are at the end of their tether. “More than 90 percent of the people who are in intensive care units are not vaccinated,” Ludwig says. The city leader wants to “significantly increase the vaccination rate in Vienna.”
Ludwig had consulted in the morning with about a dozen experts from the fields of medicine, nursing or even prognostics to learn about the current situation or possible developments.
The consultations took place against the backdrop of rising infection figures, which are now also being viewed with concern again in hospitals.
17 percent covid patients
Currently (as of Monday), 295 beds are occupied by corona patients in Viennese hospitals, 85 of whom must be treated in ICUs (that’s 17 percent of all available ICU beds). Level 5 applies to 139 occupied ICU beds. Level 3 currently applies to normal beds (up to 299 beds).
