Daylight saving time ends today, Sunday. On October 31, the hands in Europe will be turned back at 3:00 to 2:00 and thus to standard time. Otherwise always good for discussions, the excitement was kept within limits this year – mankind continues to deal with more pressing issues, the pandemic and climate protection. That’s why it remains completely unclear what will happen next with the time change in the EU.

Indeed, the ball is still in the court of the EU Council of Ministers, which last discussed the abolition of the twice-yearly time change in June 2019, the transport ministers are responsible. The European Parliament had voted in March 2019 with a large majority for the abolition of daylight saving time as of 2021 – or a year later, if there are difficulties for the single market. However, a majority of member states must still agree to this for it to become a reality. When the vote will take place is still unclear, EU Council circles told APA.
