Austro-Filipino Soldier shows heart for those in need

With a special action, Carinthian militia soldier John Patrick Platzer not only shows heart, but also wins the hearts of his fellowmen. Since 2019, his initiative has been helping those in need.

In the fall of 2019, the 32-year-old John Patrick Platzer founded the initiative “Soldiers with Heart” for children and young people. It started with a fundraising campaign for the SOS Children’s Village in Moosburg.

Platzer and his comrades did not let up and continued their fundraising initiatives, in which professional and militia soldiers from all over Austria participate, in the first and second Corona Lockdown.

“We want to set a sign of solidarity especially in times like these, our sleeping bag should be a warming hug for the young homeless in the cold season,” says Platzer.

For his social commitment with the association Soldaten mit Herz (Soldiers with Heart), militiaman John Patrick Platzer was named “Military Policeman of the Year” in Carinthia.

John Patrick Platzer is president of the Krumpendorf-based non-profit association “Soldaten mit Herz” (Soldiers with Heart), which supports children and young people in need throughout Austria with numerous fundraising campaigns. He is a militia corporal, enlisted information officer of the Carinthia Military Command and provincial chairman of the Chargengesellschaft. In 2020, Platzer received the “Great Albert Schweitzer Lifetime” Award for Humanity and was voted “Head of the Year” in the “Strong Personalities” category by the readers of the “Kleine Zeitung” newspaper.

John Patrick Platzer received his knighthood from Alexander Graff de Pancsova in the old library of the Rosenburg.

Further, Platzer has been bestowed the Order of Saint Stanislaus at the Renaissance Rosenburg Castle in Lower Austria in appreciation of his voluntary work.

“All my projects focus on helping and supporting children and young people in need. I thank all comrades who walk this stony path with me. To receive this recognition for this, I see as a mission to continue.” John Patrick Platzer said.

John Patrick Platzer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Platzer and Ester Ferwelo Platzer. His Mother, Ester is a Filipina by birth.
