The EMA has already given the green light for the use of BioNTech/Pfizer’s Corona vaccine in children between the ages of five and eleven. Now the vaccine is also recommended by the National Immunization Panel (NIG).
EMA: Green light
The head of the NIG, Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, said at a press conference in Vienna. “Childhood vaccination is safe,” Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein stressed.
Corona vaccination obligation also for children?
258,000 doses of the company’s own vaccine with a new formulation are to be delivered to Austria by the end of the year. “That is the maximum amount we have received,” Mückstein said. There are nearly 600,000 children between the ages of five and 11 in this country. Until their own vaccine is available, children will continue to be immunized with one-third of the adult dose.
Starting in February, the Corona vaccination will be mandatory in Austria. Whether it will apply also to children, did not answer Mückstein also on repeated inquiry. This would have to be discussed broadly with experts.
