Fewer Corona cases with 2,167 new infections

The 2,167 new infections reported on Saturday by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health represent a further decrease compared to the previous day (2,899), in addition, the number is also significantly lower than the average of the past seven days (3,121). The seven-day incidence fell to 244.5 cases per 100,000 population. There was also a decrease in hospitalizations as well as deaths.

The highest number of new infections occurred in Lower Austria (416), followed by Vienna (391), Tyrol (334) and Upper Austria (312). 307 cases were reported in Styria, 229 in Vorarlberg, 113 in Carinthia, 44 in Burgenland and 21 in Salzburg. The province with the highest 7-day incidence is currently Vorarlberg with 455.4, followed by Tyrol, Carinthia and Upper Austria (321.3, 304.4 and 277.6, respectively). Lower Austria (227.8), Styria (213.9), Vienna (197.5), Salzburg (175.5) and Burgenland (143.6) also follow.

As of Saturday, there were 47,338 active cases in Austria, down 3,851 from the previous day. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,247,399 confirmed cases in Austria. Recovered are 1,186,599 people, within the past 24 hours there were 5,994. 24 deaths are well below the seven-day average of 45.6. A total of 13,462 people have died from or with Covid-19 so far.

There are currently 1,863 people in the hospital (down 139). Of those, 496 people were cared for in intensive care units. That number dropped by 20 since yesterday and is down 77 patients in one week.

117,180 vaccinations have been performed on Friday. Of these, 11,618 were first shots, 24,522 were second shots and 81,040 were third shots. 6,199 219 people and thus 69.4 percent of Austrians thus have valid vaccination protection. The protection rate is highest in Burgenland with 74.7 percent. In Lower Austria, 71.3 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection, and in Styria 69.5 percent. After Vienna (68.5), Tyrol (68.2), Vorarlberg (66.3), Carinthia (66.1) and Salzburg (66.1), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 65.1 percent.
