According to information from different news agencies in Austria, the government’s emergency plan could come into force this week.
The Coronavirus Emergency Staff – i.e. the government – has already plans for the emergency the “second wave” – a renewed exponential growth of the Corona virus – is to be avoided by a step-by-step plan:
- The most important thing, the government says, is testing. We are still a long way from the original 15,000 tests per day.
- What is already happening are screenings – i.e. in certain areas, such as precarious work, nursing homes and hospitals, targeted testing of symptom-free people in order to detect clusters.
- Containment is just as important. This means immediate contact tracing – i.e. the most complete possible tracing of contacts of infected persons. In theory, all first and second contacts should be tested.
- Alarm mechanisms from 50 infected persons per 100,000
- If an infection spreads – as is now the case in several districts in Upper Austria – a critical limit is specified in the emergency plan.
- This critical figure is not the reproduction rate, but – as in Germany – 50 sick persons per 100,000 inhabitants. Linz-Land is currently already above the critical level!
- In this case, there should again be a consistent obligation to wear masks for all enclosed spaces in the region concerned.
- Schools, kindergartens and universities will also be closed.
- In this case, bars and all night restaurants will also have to close.
- Smaller rural regions would be closed off in the event of an outbreak of infection of this magnitude.
- Larger cities and regions would have to pay attention to strict quarantine of the infected and their contact persons and test will be conducted.
Will there now even be a nationwide mask requirement again?
These measures are likely to be tightened up this week . Nationwide measures – such as the reintroduction of compulsory masks in closed rooms – are also possible.
