The cold front brings winter weather to Austria

Today, Saturday, a cold front from the northwest and an Italian low will bring winter weather to Austria. Clouds will predominate throughout the country, and it will rain or snow at times, most minor in the east. The snow line will be between low altitudes and 700 meters above sea level in the northern Alps. In the country’s southern parts, the snow line will drop well below 1,000 meters by the evening. The wind will be light to moderate, in the east and partly on the mountains, brisk from northerly directions. In the morning, the thermometer will show minus three to plus four degrees, a maximum of one to eight degrees during the day.

Initially, heavy clouds will prevail on Sunday, especially along the northern side of the Alps there will still be some snowfall. During the day, the clouds will clear somewhat, especially in the north, east, and south, and there will also be some sunshine. The wind will be light to moderate in the east and at the eastern edge of the Alps, partly brisk from the northwest. Early morning temperatures will not exceed minus three to plus two degrees; temperatures will not rise above three to nine degrees during the day.

Monday will also be rainy.

On Monday, clouds will predominate, with a few snowflakes in the mountains and raindrops at lower altitudes. Mostly, however, it will be dry, and the clouds will slowly start to clear. It will gradually become sunnier in the afternoon throughout the country. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from southwest to west; it may freshen up somewhat in the north. In the morning, temperatures will drop from minus four to plus two degrees, followed by six to eleven degrees daily highs.

Temperatures will rise again from Tuesday onwards.

On Tuesday, clouds will quickly thicken from the northwest, especially from Vorarlberg to western and northern Lower Austria, with intermittent rain during the day. In some snow-covered Alpine valleys, freezing rain is possible at first. The snow line will be between 1,000 and 1,400 meters. During the day, a brisk wind from southwest to west will develop in the north and east. Otherwise, a weak to moderate wind will blow. If the beginning of the week is not weather-friendly, temperatures may rise to 16 degrees in some parts of the country on Tuesday, according to the Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik (ZAMG) forecast.
