4,941 new corona infections identified in Austria|

The rise in new Corona infections continues to gain momentum due to omicron subvariants BA.4/BA.5.

Ministries across Austria reported four thousand nine hundred forty-one new infections. A week earlier, this number was 4,271. The nearly 5,000 new infections are thus above the average of 4,735 over the past seven days. The seven-day incidence reached 369.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The day before, it was 361.7.

The number of active cases also continues to skyrocket. Currently, 54,534 people are laboring with SARS-CoV-2 infection in Austria. This is 1,813 more than on Thursday. Vienna again saw the most increase in new infections with 1,667 cases, followed by Lower Austria with 1,412, Upper Austria with 526, Styria with 361, Salzburg with 274, Tyrol with 248, Carinthia with 187, Burgenland with 180, and Vorarlberg with 86 new cases. The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Vienna with 598.2, followed by Lower Austria, Vorarlberg, and Salzburg (428, 372.5, and 346.5, respectively). This is followed by Burgenland (333.3), Upper Austria (266.1), Tyrol (263.5), Styria (229), and Carinthia (175.7).

The positive rate of PCR tests is currently 10.6 percent. This 24-hour figure is also above last week’s average of six percent. In the past 24 hours, 61,150 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported. Of these, 46,485 were meaningful PCR tests.

There was also an increase in hospital occupancy: There are currently 523 patients hospitalized with Covid 19 infection. This is 23 more than on holiday. Thirty-six people require intensive care. This number increased by five since yesterday and has risen by one patient in one week.

There has been one death related to corona infection since Thursday. In the past seven days, 31 deaths have been recorded. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,721 lives in Austria since the outbreak. The AGES dashboard, which continues to show figures that differ partly from the current situation, showed 19,984 deaths on Monday.

Only 587 vaccinations had been administered as of Thursday. Of those, only 33 were first-time vaccinations, 56 were second-time vaccinations, and 498 were third-time vaccinations. 76.1 percent of the population, or 6.8 million people, have received at least one vaccination, according to E-vaccination data. 5.6 million people, or 62.9 percent of Austrians, have proper vaccination protection.

The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland, at 70.2 percent. In Lower Austria, 66.1 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection, and in Styria, 64 percent. After Vienna (61.6), Tyrol (60.7), Carinthia (59.7), Vorarlberg (59.3), and Salzburg (58.7), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 58.2 percent.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have already been 4.3 million confirmed cases in Austria. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, 4.2 million people have recovered.
