The number of new Corona infections in Austria continues to rise. On Monday, when the fewest new infections are always reported due to low testing on Sunday – 4,933 more cases were registered. A week ago, there had been 2,905 new infections on Monday. The seven-day incidence rose to 444.2. In addition, three more deaths have been reported since Sunday. There was also a significant increase in hospital patients.
587 infected people are being treated in hospitals
Domestic hospitals have had to admit 44 more Covid-19-infected patients since Sunday. On Monday, 587 patients were thus in hospital. Within one week, there was an increase of 19 percent. The number of intensive care patients remains stable and at a low level. At the beginning of the week, 36 critically ill patients were treated, one more than on Sunday but the same number as a week ago.
On Friday, AGES published its update of the effective reproduction number, which was 1.21. This means that 100 infected people currently infect 121 more people with SARS-CoV-2. This has been evident in the case numbers since early June. On May 30 – also a Monday, there were still 1,733 new infections reported within 24 hours, and the seven-day incidence at that time was 167.7. The following week it rose to 212, and by June 13 it was 278.9.
Last week, an average of 5,699 new cases were added daily. On Monday, there were 61,344 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, up 1,651 from the previous day. The province with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 709.3, followed by Lower Austria (513.6), Burgenland (448.2), and Vorarlberg (447.7). Behind them are Salzburg (414.2), Tyrol (334.6), Upper Austria (314.8), Styria (284.7), and Carinthia (201.4).
