From Sunday to Monday, 7,228 new infections were registered in Austria. This is below the 7-day average of 10,222 infections. The 7-day incidence decreases slightly to 803.92.
This brings the number of active Corona cases to 116,372. Sixty-one thousand four hundred thirty-three new PCR tests were made in the past 24 hours. This results in a positive rate of 11.77 percent.
There are also seven new deaths. This means that 18,884 people have died in connection with SARS-CoV-2 infection across Austria.
More people in the hospital again
There are currently 1,103 patients treated in the hospital, 174 more than a week ago, and 92 more reported the previous day. In the intensive care unit, there are 57 people, six more than in the last week.
With the number of patients one sees on the normal wards for approximately two weeks, “a clear increase,” reported senior physician Hermann Laferl of the Viennese hospital Favoriten on Sunday evening in ORF “Vienna today.” “It has not yet spread to the intensive care unit, fortunately,” he said. The vaccination can no longer prevent the infection, but very well a severe course, he stressed. Deaths have become “really rare,” he said.
