The FPÖ presented its candidates for the Vienna elections in October. There were no surprises.
As the last of the parties represented in the municipal council, the FPÖ now also presented its team of candidates for the Vienna elections on 11 October. The Blue Party is not interested in lateral entrants. The national list is characterised by “reliability, consistency and experience”, explained top candidate Dominik Nepp at a press conference.
Thus, the top positions on the list are almost exclusively occupied by people who are already represented in the provincial parliament and the municipal council. Behind the managing party leader, Nepp, at the top – the official chairmanship at the party conference had to be cancelled due to corona reasons and can probably only be made up for in 2021 – is the non-executive city councilor Maximilian Krauss, followed by club chairman Anton Mahdalik, the second president of the state parliament, Veronika Matiasek, and the member of parliament Dietbert Kowarik.
Double-digit
Within the first 15 places of the blue national list there are only two women: Next to Matiasek, in seventh place is Ulrike Nittmann, who is not in charge. Next to members of the municipal council, the current head of the district of Simmering, Paul Stadler, who is also the head of the district, is in 13th place. Nepp showed himself confident that the leadership in the eleventh district will be maintained or even extended. The complete list was unanimously decided on Monday by the board, the top candidate reported.
When asked, Nepp did not name a concrete election goal. In any case, he said, it was “a matter of course” that there would be a double-digit number. At the Vienna elections in 2015, the FPÖ achieved 30.79 percent. Polls predict heavy losses for the Blues this time. In any case, he is not afraid of the competition from the new party of former FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache “at all”, said the blue state party leader: “It is basing around two to three percent and will certainly not get in. According to him, a vote for Strache is a lost one.
