As of Monday, the quarantine for Corona infected people in Austria will fall – despite high infection numbers: Currently, there are 8,079 newly infected and 17 dead.

Quarantine falls, number of Corona patients in domestic hospitals rises.
On Thursday, the country’s health authorities reported 8,079 new Corona infections and 17 deaths in Austria. The infection numbers thus remain very high. By comparison, a week ago Thursday, July 21, 2022, there were 14,070 new infections and small deaths. Small glimmer of hope: hospital numbers are falling for the first time in days, albeit only slightly. 1,662 Corona patients are currently being treated in hospitals, down 57 from intensive care units; the number dropped by three to 98.

The new infections in the federal states:

Vienna 2.909

Vorarlberg 192

Tyrol 399

Styria 965

Salzburg 223

Upper Austria 1,251

Lower Austria 1,174

Carinthia 587

Burgenland 379

It is now fixed that the quarantine for Corona-infected persons in Austria will be dropped as of August 1 and replaced by traffic restrictions. Accompanying the current regulations, the variant management plan for Austria, which has been announced for some time, has been drawn up. This provides for four scenarios – numbered from best to worst case. In the worst-case scenario, there is the threat of another lockdown.

While in the first scenario, we can continue our lives entirely without masking obligations or access rules, in the worst case – new, more resistant, and more virulent corona mutants – it gets steep. Suppose the measures taken before don’t help. In that case, a lockdown will come: “In an epidemiological-societal cost-benefit assessment, an early, short, but stringent lockdown – if not avoidable – is preferable,” the draft plan states.
