The Omicron-adapted Corona vaccine will be administered in the U.S. beginning in September.
This was reported by the New York Times on Friday night. According to the report, the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden plans to offer booster vaccines from manufacturers Pfizer and Moderna. Because of this, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also decided against expanding the campaign for the fourth prick with the conventional Corona vaccine.
It said that the adapted vaccines would offer better protection against the currently dominant BA.4 and BA.5 virus variants. So far, the fourth prick has been recommended in the U.S. only for people 50 years and older and immunocompromised individuals.
In June, the EU’s Medicines Agency (EMA) began reviewing Pfizer and Moderna’s Omicron vaccines. It is not known how long the trials will last.
