Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) demands stricter controls of returnees at the borders. “Stricter controls are needed here. It is urgently necessary for the health authorities to ensure that more comprehensive checks are carried out here than in the past,” Kurz said in the Saturday edition of the daily newspaper “Österreich”.
Kurz also considers sensible that corona tests for returnees should be carried out directly at the border. “The health authorities must perform their work better. This concerns the performance of tests. It still takes too long for the people concerned to get the results. But quarantine measures must also be implemented more quickly, ” The Federal Chancellor said.
Like Health Minister Rudolf Anschober the current increase in new infections is also a cause of concern for the Chancellor: “It was foreseeable that the number of new infections would increase due to travel during the holiday season. But yes, I am worried: the current figures are worrying.”
