31 August 2020 – There was a slight increase in new coronavirus infections in Austria. In the past 24 hours 272 people tested positive for Covid-19. On Sunday there were 181 new infections, the day before even 395 cases. Currently 3,479 people in Austria are infected with SARS-CoV-2, the Ministry of the Interior reported on Monday.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 27,438 positive test results have been registered in Austria. As of Monday (9.30 am), 733 people have died with or as a result of Covid-19. 23,226 have recovered from an infection. Currently, 154 people are undergoing hospital treatment for SARS-CoV-2, 31 of whom are in intensive care.
Most new infections were again in Vienna with 167 cases, followed by Lower Austria with 32 and Upper Austria and Tyrol with 22 cases each. Twelve cases were registered in Styria, ten cases in Salzburg, three in Burgenland and two each in Carinthia and Vorarlberg.
Meanwhile, the state of Kärnten has hardly detected any infected persons among the Croatian returnees who voluntarily let themselves be tested for the coronavirus. As the national press service communicated, 1,032 Croatia vacationers were tested free of charge, of it only three tests were positive. Furthermore, 28 returnees from the Balearic Islands had themselves tested, none of them was infected.
