The number of deaths caused by the violent typhoon “Doksuri” in the Philippines has risen to 39. At least 13 people were killed in severe flooding and landslides triggered by the tropical storm, especially in the north of the island nation, the disaster management agency said Friday. The death toll from the severe boat accident in Rizal province, east of the capital Manila, has since climbed to 26, according to the Coast Guard.
The “MBCA Princess Aya” was caught by strong winds on Thursday in Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines. After the passengers ran to one side of the boat in panic, it tilted and capsized. Forty people were rescued. The accident occurred just a few dozen meters from the coast. According to the Coast Guard, the boat, on which only 42 passengers were allowed, was completely overcrowded.

“Doksuri” hit land on Wednesday with gusts of up to 240 kilometres per hour. According to authorities, the typhoon has affected more than 500,000 people in 43 provinces. Nearly 43,000 residents were displaced. The weather bureau announced that another storm was headed for the Philippines: “Khanun” could bring new heavy rain, it said. “Doksuri,” meanwhile, was on its way to China.

The Philippines is hit by an average of about 20 typhoons every year. The terrible storm “Haiyan” claimed the lives of more than 6,300 people in November 2013. At the end of 2021, typhoon “Rai” caused severe devastation, killing more than 400 people.
