The mobile phone manufacturer Huawei points out a specific sequence when charging a smartphone. What is the first step: connecting the mobile phone to the cable or plugging the charger into the socket?
Charging your mobile phone: First, the plug, then the mobile phone
Even though the battery performance of smartphones has improved significantly, especially in recent years, and mobile phones no longer need to be plugged into a socket often, charging remains an (almost) daily ritual. You can’t do much wrong here – or can you? Smartphone manufacturer Huawei has addressed the issue and explained the correct sequence. Of course, this also applies to other mobile phones.
According to Huawei, there are two reasons why we should think about the correct sequence for charging smartphones. Firstly, it increases the longevity of the battery and the cable used. On the other hand, it can also prevent possible overvoltage. This becomes noticeable when sparks fly at the socket.
To prevent overvoltage and protect the mobile phone’s battery, Huawei recommends first plugging the charger into the socket. Only then should the charging cable be connected to the mobile phone.
After charging: First the mobile phone, then the plug
The correct sequence is also recommended after charging is complete. Huawei recommends disconnecting the charging cable from the smartphone first. Only then, if necessary, should the charger be disconnected from the main power supply. This will prevent the generation of a reverse instantaneous current, which, in the worst-case scenario, will result in a shortened battery life.
