Gifts, flowers, food or outings: A recent survey shows that Austrians spoil their mothers on Mother’s Day.
Rituals and traditions around Mother’s Day are a must for many. According to a Marketagent survey (1,000 people), gifts are part of it for 41 per cent, a celebration with the family is a must for 37 per cent, just over a quarter take on certain activities, a fifth go on an outing with mom, and almost as many ‘serve’ her on her day of honour, it was reported on Wednesday.
Rituals and traditions are a must on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day carries a lot of weight in Austria: a good half of those surveyed attach great importance to it. Cuddles, hugs and gifts are mainly given as an expression of appreciation; 41% want to show their mother how important she is to them. Tradition is almost as important, but one in ten people celebrates Mother’s Day purely out of duty to avoid offending anyone.
Two-thirds of Austrians would reject the official abolition of Mother’s Day. Incidentally, Father’s Day can also keep pace here, with 64 per cent wanting to keep it, even though only under a third recognise its high relevance.
