Wind, rain, and cooler air on Thursday
On Thursday, “Kirk” will bring rain, fresh winds, and cooler air to Austria from the west. In the eastern half of the country, it will initially still be warm and sunny at times, but towards the afternoon, the clouds will thicken here, too, and it will get wet. Most rain will be concentrated in Vorarlberg, the Tyrolean lowlands, East Tyrol, Salzburg, and Carinthia. By the afternoon, the rain will also reach Styria and Burgenland.

The heavy rain may lead to local flooding and mudslides. Stormy winds from the northwest to southwest are also expected. Temperatures will drop between 17 and 9 degrees in western federal states like Vorarlberg, Tyrol, and Upper Austria. However, it will remain somewhat warmer in the east and southeast with 18 to 24-degree temperatures. At an altitude of 2000 meters, the temperature will drop to 2 to 9 degrees Celsius, with the snow line falling below 2000 meters in the west.
Friday is cooler and changeable
Friday will be cooler and changeable throughout Austria. There will be a mix of clouds and sunny spells, with the south likely to get the most hours of sunshine. However, some rain showers will move in from Bavaria (Germany) with lively to strong winds. There may even be snowfall at altitudes between 2200 and 1500 meters. The maximum daily temperatures will be between 9 and 20 degrees, with the highest temperatures of up to 20 degrees expected in the south. At an altitude of 2000 meters, the temperature will be between minus 1 and plus 4 degrees, and in the southern Alps, it will be around plus 4 degrees.

There will be a few hours of sunshine, fog, and high fog, which will only break up slowly, especially in Lower Carinthia and Upper Styria. It will also remain cloudy in the east for a while. During the afternoon, more clouds will gather from Vorarlberg to Upper Austria, which may drizzle in some places. The wind will be brisk and strong in places, blowing east to south. Maximum temperatures will be between 10 and 19 degrees.
