Wednesday will often be cloudy. Occasionally, it will clear up, especially in the west, where the sun will shine. On the northern edge of the Alps, however, there will be occasional rain and snow showers. The snow line will be between 500 and 700 m above sea level. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from west to north. Early morning temperatures will be between minus 6 and plus 3 degrees, and afternoon temperatures will be between 2 and 6 degrees.
On Thursday, a high fog-like cloud cover will cover the sky in the north and east of the country, which will clear up hesitantly. Otherwise, the sun will initially appear between a few remnants of cloud before clouds from another disturbance move in from the west at midday. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from mostly westerly directions. Early temperatures will be between minus 7 and plus 1 degree Celsius, and daytime highs will be between minus 2 and plus 5 degrees.
Snow down to low altitudes
On Friday, dense clouds will move in from the west with a frontal system, and rain or sleet will spread. The snow line will rise to over 1000 m as the warm front moves through. Colder air can often remain more stable in the inner Alps, increasing the risk of black ice. The main areas of precipitation will be in the west and further east along the northern side of the Alps. However, it will remain mostly dry in the south during the day. The wind will shift to the west and blow strongly in places. Early temperatures are minus 7 to 0 degrees, and daytime highs are 1 to 8 degrees, with the highest values in the west.
Saturday will start dry and sunny in the east. However, more and more clouds will approach from the west, bringing rain and snowfall above 800 meters. The highest temperatures will be between minus 1 and plus 9 degrees. From the night to Sunday, snowfall will spread to almost all of Austria.
From today’s perspective, Sunday will be a deep winter. Snow will mostly fall at low altitudes—Vienna will also likely turn white. Highs will be between minus 3 and plus 6 degrees. Snow showers are also expected on Monday.
