Austrian Post is decisively raising postage costs for letters starting in May. Standard items will now cost 5 to 15 cents more, depending on the format, with the classic stamp set at 1 euro.
Austrian Post AG is making this crucial adjustment in light of the recent amendment to the Postal Market Act. The new standard will be the new standard for the former “Eco-Brief” service, which guarantees delivery within two to three days. From May onward, the price for the smallest letter format will increase from EUR 0.95 to EUR 1. Furthermore, for those requiring next-working-day delivery, there will be an additional fee of 30 cents for all formats.
In its press release, the partly state-owned postal service emphasized its commitment to simplifying the product structure. This move is a direct response to the changing needs of customers. Walter Oblin, CEO of Austrian Post, highlighted that “over 80 percent of all letters are already sent within two to three working days.” By streamlining its offerings, the company adapts to the Postal Market Act while meeting customer expectations.
The increases in postage rates will range from 5 to 15 cents for standard items, while expedited shipping will see a rise of 10 to 20 cents. The standard “letter” product can still be conveniently dropped in the yellow letterbox with postage paid as usual. At the same time, additional services such as faster delivery or registered mail remain available at the counter or dispatch station.
