German health departments have reported 6114 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 861 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to figures released by the RKI on Tuesday. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 6412 new infections and 903 new deaths within 24 hour

The peak of 1244 new reported deaths had been reached on January 14. The highest number of new infections registered within 24 hours, 33,777, was reported on December 18, but included 3,500 subsequent reports.

The number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (seven-day incidence) was 90 on Tuesday morning, according to the RKI. Its previous high had been reached on December 22 with 197.6.

The RKI counts 2 228 085 proven infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of Feb. 2, 00:00). The actual total number is likely to be much higher, as many infections are not detected. The total number of people who have died from or with the involvement of a confirmed infection with Sars-CoV-2 has risen to 57,981, with approximately 1,954,000 people having recovered.

The nationwide seven-day R value was 0.88 (previous day 0.91), according to the RKI situation report Monday evening. This means that 100 infected people mathematically infect 88 other people. The value represents in each case the infection occurrence 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the incidence of infection is decreasing.
