50 percent of Austrians have been buying more online since the start of the Corona crisis than before. Of these, in turn, 66 percent said they would continue to do so in the future.
According to an Austria-wide survey by idealo.at, for 68 percent of all online shoppers, one reason why they will continue to shop digitally is that they are not tied to opening hours. Almost two-thirds of all respondents cited the fact that the online range is larger, shopping is more relaxed and stress-free and that products do not have to be carried home as further reasons.
“Half of all customers who say they continue to store more online have learned through the crisis that comparing prices pays off,” says Jörg Stampler, marketing manager of the price comparison platform idealo.at. During the first exit restriction and the associated closure of the trade, it was already 23 percent who stated that they wanted to shop more online from now on. One year later, this figure has more than doubled to 50 percent.
Austrians try new things
The willingness to experiment is increasing. 48 percent of respondents said they had bought products online that they would not otherwise have bought or would not have bought online. In all age groups from 18- to 64-year-olds, the propensity to try new things is well above 40 percent.
“29 percent of all Austrians currently have less money available per month than before the Corona crisis. Which is why the increasing trend to compare prices makes sense,” Stampler from idealo Austria continues.
