Austrian Press answers some questions regarding car trips on Mother’s Day with regard to the Covid regulations currently in force.

Am I currently allowed to drive without restrictions?

During the day, between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., staying outside the private living area is allowed without restrictions, and thus also driving. At night, between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., one may only leave the private living area for certain purposes, such as physical or psychological recreation.

Does that mean for the Mother’s Day outing that I have to be back in my own living area by 8:00 p.m. at the latest?

No – a Mother’s Day excursion outdoors, for example, is considered an activity for physical or mental recreation. Therefore, it is a valid reason to stay outside the private living area even after 20:00.

May I take my mother with me in the car on a Mother’s Day outing?

In principle, you are allowed to take someone with you. However, when taking a person from outside the household, only two people per row of seats may be seated and all occupants must wear a protection class FFP2 (FFP2 mask) without an exhalation valve or a mask with at least an equivalent standard.

Do I have to wear a mouth and nose protection?

Yes, unless the mother or another vehicle occupant lives in the same household, an FFP2 mask or a mask with an equivalent standard must be worn.

What if I have already been vaccinated?

Vaccination does not currently affect behavioral requirements.

Until when do these federal regulations apply?

The 4th Covid 19 Protective Measures Regulations will expire at the end of 05/18/2021.

Am I allowed to take a field trip to another state?

In principle, this is allowed. However, there are regions in Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburg where testing is mandatory when leaving the country. For example, if the trip is to Hallein or Oberalm in the neighboring province of Salzburg, a negative test must be presented when leaving the country. The following regulations apply to persons over 15 years of age: A PCR test from the last 72 or an antigen test from the last 48 hours is required.
There are exceptions for transit traffic, as well as for persons who have taken an antibody test in the last 3 months or have been infected with Covid-19 in the last 6 months – in these cases the corresponding confirmation must be carried along!
