Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) will present today, Monday the ordinance for the planned openings after the lockdown from May 19. Before that, details will be discussed with the provincial governors, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.
The ordinance will then be presented to the public. The planning of the opening steps took place in intensive cooperation with numerous experts and the provinces, it said.
The chancellor expressed confidence that a “big step towards normality” would follow with May 19. This would be made possible by the vaccination progress and the “massive testing,” Kurz said: “From the current point of view, there is nothing to stop us from returning to normality in the summer.”
Austrians could rest assured that he would continue to “closely monitor the situation” and intervene if necessary, explained Mückstein, who held out the prospect of a “cautious and safe return to our old life.” The basic rule of the openings are special safety precautions, Mückstein said. In other words, those who have recovered, been tested and vaccinated.
