Health authorities in Germany have reported 5412 new Corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is according to figures from Monday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard as of 05.03. For comparison, a week ago the figure had been 6922 infections. On Monday, the case numbers reported by the RKI are usually lower, partly because less testing is done on the weekend.
According to the RKI, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days was 83.1 nationwide on Monday morning (previous day: 83.1; previous week: 119.1). Across Germany, 64 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to the data. A week ago, there had been 54 deaths.
Because of the May 13 holiday, it should be noted when interpreting case numbers that fewer people see a doctor on holidays and bridge days, which also means fewer samples are taken and fewer laboratory tests are performed, the RKI’s situation report said Sunday. “This results in fewer pathogen detections being reported to the relevant health authorities.”
