Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) reports a new vaccination milestone. At the same time, he appeals to take vaccination deadlines seriously.
As of today, 50 percent of the total population has been vaccinated. This “important milestone in the fight against the pandemic” was announced by Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein in a press release. 50.14 percent of all people in Austria had received a Corona vaccination. “The pace of Corona vaccinations remains high. So far, we have already been able to carry out around 6.9 million vaccinations and provide more than 4.4 million people in Austria with initial protection against the corona virus,” Mückstein said.
He said he is also pleased with the numbers among younger people, which are rising sharply. “Among 16- to 25-year-olds, 34 percent have already received a vaccination. That’s already more than one in three people. Even among 12 to 15-year-olds, where vaccination has only been possible for a few days, 6.3 percent have already received at least one vaccination within a very short time,” Mückstein is quoted as saying in the release. So while the numbers continue to climb rapidly, it is now important that all people receive their second dose of vaccination, he said.
“For long-term and complete vaccination protection, the second partial vaccination is usually particularly important. The data show us that this also makes the vaccination particularly effective against new viral variants, allowing antibodies to build up over the longer term,” Mückstein said. “Be sure to keep your vaccination appointments, especially the second one. This way, you will receive the best possible vaccination protection and will also be better protected against the new virus variants. Together, we will thus manage to push back the pandemic bit by bit.”
