New infection figures have so far continued to decline in Austria despite the spread of the more contagious delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. With 63 new infections today, the seven-day average dropped to 93 new infections daily. Covid-19 patients receiving hospital care also continued to decline. The seven-day incidence is now 7.3 cases per 100,000 population.
As of Monday, there were thus still 2,078 active cases in Austria – 59 fewer than on Sunday. A month ago – on May 28 – there had been 6,306 actively infected people, more than three times as many. The number of new infections was also much higher then – 541 cases were reported within 24 hours a month ago.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have already been 650,324 confirmed infected persons in Austria. There are 637,545 people considered recovered. There are still 179 Covid 19 patients to be treated in hospital, eight fewer than on Sunday. 59 critically ill patients are being cared for in intensive care units – three fewer than the previous day. A week ago, there had been 80 intensive care patients.
One death
Since Sunday, one more death has been reported; last week, 21 people died as a result of coronavirus infection. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 10,701 lives in Austria since it broke out. Thus, 120.2 people per 100,000 population have already died from or with Covid-19.
