The vaccination campaign on the sidelines of the film festival at Rathausplatz started with long queues. There you can get vaccinated against the coronavirus without registration. On Saturday, 281 people took advantage of the offer.
Was actually planned per opening time 200 people to vaccinate, but on Saturday alone there were 281 people, drew a spokesman for Health City Council Peter Hacker (SPÖ) on Sunday a first summary. “We expected a good demand, but it was still surprisingly strong rush. We are of course pleased that the willingness to be vaccinated is still high among the Viennese population,” said the spokesman. No one was turned away, he also emphasized.
People waiting could go to the Austria Center
Rather, there was an optional offer for those waiting to go with a confirmation either immediately or at a later time to the vaccination street in the Austria Center Vienna to be vaccinated there without an appointment. Yesterday, 75 people took advantage of this option. In this way, the city wants to cope with the crowds on Sunday as well. It is also considering extending the opening hours of the vaccination box, the spokesman said. Currently, vaccination is possible there daily between 17:00 and 22:00.
The vaccination box at Vienna’s Rathausplatz was built in the course of the film festival that is currently taking place there and opened yesterday. For those over 18 years of age, the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, which is only required once, is available; for those under 18 years of age, the vaccine from BioNTech/Pfizer is offered. In this case, the second prick will then take place at the Austria Center Vienna. Those individuals who accepted the optional offer in the queue for the sting at the Austria Center will also be vaccinated there with Johnson & Johnson, as would have been the case in the vaccination box.
Vaccination campaign with AstraZeneca
On Monday, moreover, another vaccination campaign will start in Vienna without an appointment. This time at the Austria Center. Until Sunday (July 11), interested persons who have not yet been vaccinated and are over 18 years old can be vaccinated there. The preparation from AstraZeneca will be used. The second vaccination will take place four weeks later. The spokesman for the Health City Council announced further such mobile vaccination opportunities without registration: “We will also plan further actions over the summer, where we come to the people with vaccinations.”
