Again more than 1,200 new infections in Austria.
Three new deaths were registered in connection with Covid-19.

The fourth wave seems to be rearing its head further. Yesterday, 1,221 new cases were recorded within 24 hours, the highest level since early May. Current projections are for a further increase. 1,400 new infections are expected next Wednesday. The Covid forecasting consortium also expects patients in intensive care units to double within 14 days.

From Wednesday to Thursday, yesterday’s figure in Austria was surpassed with 1,226 new Corona infections, well above the seven-day average of 991. There are also three new deaths related to Covid 19 infection to report, bringing the pandemic death toll in Austria to 10,760 so far. The number of active cases increases by 594 to 10,499. The seven-day incidence rises to 77.90.

In the past 24 hours, 64,460 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 1.90 percent.

There are currently 290 people in Austria’s hospitals linked to covid disease, down three from the previous day. 68 patients are in intensive care – nine more than the day before.

Although experts are already predicting the start of a fourth wave, the vaccination campaign in Austria continues to make slow progress, with 24,307 vaccinations performed as of Wednesday. A total of 5,412,659 people have already received at least a partial vaccination, according to E-vaccination passport data: That’s 60.6 percent of the population. Exactly 5,061,419, or 56.7 percent of Austrians, meanwhile, are fully immunized.
