In Croatia, new infections with the coronavirus are increasing rapidly. In the past 24 hours 96 cases have been confirmed, the civil defense staff announced on Friday. Since the beginning of the corona pandemic there have been so many new infections only on April 1st. However, as there were now also two deaths, Croatian media reported the worst day so far in the entire corona period.

Increase since two weeks
For about two weeks, high infection rates have been reported daily in Croatia, on Thursday there were about 81 new cases, on Wednesday there were 54 new infections. The number of active cases is currently at 728, with large outbreaks of infection in the capital Zagreb and in Slavonia, in the east of the country. In the cities along the Adriatic coast the number of active cases is rather low. Since 25 February, when the first case of corona was confirmed in Croatia, a total of 2,008 people have tested positive so far.

Due to the high infection rates, Croatia will be removed from the list of corona-safe countries by neighbouring Slovenia on Saturday, which will result in entry restrictions. For Austrians who are currently in Croatia, however, nothing will change on their return journey: Transit through Slovenia will not be affected if it does not take longer than 12 hours.
