On Wednesday, the health Campaign formed by the trade unions, the Chamber of Labour and the Medical Association handed over to Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) a six-point demand programme for a future-proof system of health and long-term care.
The main demands are for more staff, better working conditions and a training and further education offensive.
The first of the six points for a future fit health care system refers to the demand for more staff. The increase in personnel must be based on a uniform, transparent and evidence-based personnel calculation method that is mandatory throughout Austria. The second demand is that the health and care system should be further developed with the involvement of experts and those affected. There is also a demand for a training and further training offensive with more and more attractive training places and the training fund agreed in the government programme.
The slogan “Health must be worth something” conceals the demand for a rapid increase in budgetary resources. The demand for better working conditions also includes the creation of modern working time models that are geared to different needs. And finally, the sixth point is that a bottleneck in resources and equipment must be avoided at all costs so that there is no shortage of disinfectants, protective equipment and medicines.
Anschober assured the representatives of the platform that talks would be held this summer. He felt strengthened by the demands of the initiative. The Corona crisis had made it clear, where there was still room for improvement in the already strong health care system.
