According to US scientists, more than 30 million corona virus infections have been recorded worldwide since the beginning of the corona pandemic. This is according to data from the University of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on Thursday evening (local time). The number of deaths is more than 943,000.

Worldwide, the USA, a country with a population of around 330 million, accounts for most infections and deaths. According to Johns Hopkins, there are more than 6.6 million infections with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and more than 197,000 deaths in the USA. In second place – measured by the number of infections – is India with 5.1 million infections and more than 83,000 deaths. Brazil comes in third place with more than 4.4 million infections and more than 134,000 deaths.

In relation to the number of inhabitants, however, the number of deaths in six countries is higher than in the USA. In first place, according to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, is Peru with just under 97 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. Bolivia, Spain, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil and the USA follow at a considerable distance – a good 60 people per 100,000 inhabitants died there.

The Johns Hopkins website is regularly updated with incoming data and therefore shows a higher level than the official figures of the World Health Organization (WHO). In some cases, however, the figures have recently been revised downwards again. In any case, experts expect a higher number of unreported cases.
