After the triple of League, Cup and Champions League, Bayern Munich has also won the European Supercup. Coach Hansi Flick’s team won 2-1 (1-1, 1-1) after extra time against the European League winner FC Sevilla in Budapest on Thursday evening. Joker Javi Martinez scored the decisive goal in the 104th minute.

Already next Wednesday, title number five in the German Supercup will be on the cards against runner-up Borussia Dortmund in Munich. Coach Hansi Flick’s eleven also continued his remarkable streak: since December 7, 2019, they have not lost a single match and won 31 of 32 games. For Sevilla it was the first defeat since the beginning of February.

Controversial Uefa experiment with spectators
As a soccer fan, Flick would “not have gone to Budapest,” as he said on TV station Sky before the kick-off. But as a coach, of course, he did his job on the sidelines. For the first time ever, spectators were allowed to watch a Uefa game. Although Hungary’s capital is considered a Corona high-risk area, 15,500 spectators were at the Puskas Arena.

The Bayern fans who had travelled to Hungary despite all the travel warnings had to wait a long time for the cheers on Martínez’ winning goal. Prior to this, Leon Goretzka (34th), had equalized the early penalty goal of Sevilla’s attacker Lucas Ocampos (13th) in the Puskas Arena.
