According to US President Donald Trump has tested positive for the coronavirus. He announced this on Twitter today. After the confirmed coronavirus infection of a close advisor, Trump had isolated himself with First Lady Melania. “The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process,” Trump had written on Twitter last night.

There have been corona infections in Trump’s environment before. However, Hicks is the person closest to the president who is known to be infected. According to unanimous media reports, Hicks traveled with Trump in the presidential plane Air Force One on Tuesday to Cleveland for the TV debate, where Trump met his Democratic challenger Joe Biden. On Wednesday she traveled to Minnesota for an election campaign appearance.

Trump suggested that Hicks may have contracted the disease from members of the military or police officers. “They come to you and they want to hug you and they want to kiss you because we did a really good job for them, you get close and things happen,” he said. “I was surprised to hear about Hope, but she is a very warm person to them and she knows there is a risk, but she is young. You can’t just say, “Stay away, stay away,” Trump said.

In Wednesday’s photos, Hicks was seen at Andrews Joint Base outside the presidential helicopter Marine One at the Andrews Air Force Base in close proximity to Trump’s advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner. Neither of them wore any mouth and nose protection.

Trump usually does not wear a mask in public. The White House explained that the President and his entourage were regularly tested for the corona virus. Trump’s spokeswoman, Kayleigh McEnany, described wearing masks in June as a “personal decision” and pointed out that they were tested regularly.

White House staff have known since Wednesday evening that Hicks was infected, the New York Times reported. She was not well in Minnesota and was quarantined in Air Force One during the return flight, Bloomberg reported.

At the beginning of May, it had become known that Katie Miller, the press spokeswoman for US Vice President Mike Pence, had been infected. At the end of July, the National Security Advisor at the White House, Robert O’Brien, tested positive.

The Corona Pandemic is still not under control in the USA. More than 7.2 million infections have been detected since the beginning of the pandemic. More than 207,000 people have died.
