Most new cases are in Vienna with 402, followed by Upper Austria with 152 cases. The number of intensive care patients increased by a quarter within one week.
In Austria, 873 persons have been tested newly positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours (as of 9.30 am). Most of them were in Vienna with 402, the Ministry of the Interior reported on Thursday. A total of 8,370 active cases were counted.
So far there have been 45,686 positive test results in Austria. As of today, 802 people throughout Austria have died as a result of the corona virus and 36,476 have recovered. At present (as of 9.30 a.m.), 493 persons (minus three) are undergoing hospital treatment due to the corona virus and 98 (plus eight) of the sick are in intensive care units.
The new infections since the last notification are divided among the provinces of Austria as follows: Carinthia: nine, Burgenland: 22, Vorarlberg: 24, Salzburg: 47, Styria: 57, Tyrol: 70, Lower Austria: 90, Upper Austria: 152 and Vienna: 402.
More and more intensive care patients
It is noticeable that the number of intensive care patients in Austria has increased by 25 percent within one week. On Thursday, 98 infected persons needed intensive care, the Ministry of Health said in a statement. The pandemic continues to grow worldwide, emphasized Rudolf Anschober (Greens), head of department. “In Austria, too, the infection figures are far too high for this time. The risk of infection will continue to rise as temperatures drop”.
Two deaths in Vienna
In Vienna, in addition to 402 new corona infections, two deaths were recorded. Two men aged 87 and 90 years with pre-existing conditions died of or with the virus.
